The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office has a new PSA, it seems. And it's a good one:
In the PSA, Sheriff David Clarke says, “With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option. You could beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back. But are you prepared?”
He goes on to say, “You have a duty to protect yourself and your family. We’re partners now. Can I count on you?”
Unsurprisingly, this has got leftists all riled up, including the mayor's office, which released this statement:
The office of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said in a statement:
“Apparently Sheriff David Clark (sp) is auditioning for the next Dirty
Harry movie.”
Y'know, I bet they felt pretty damn clever with that. But the sheriff...well, he had just the perfect comeback, so far as I'm concerned:
Clarke fired back with his own statement. It read: ”Several years ago a
tire iron-wielding suspect beat Mayor Tom Barrett to within inches of
his life. I would think that he would be a lot more sensitive to people
being able to defend themselves in such instances. A firearm and a
plan of defense would have come in handy for him that day.”
Ooh,
burn. Definite Quote of the Month material there.

Interesting. I don't know the mayor (or the sheriff for that matter), but it seems incomprehensible that given his assault, he'd be opposed to people being prepared. Like someone who has experienced a kitchen fire being opposed to the availability of fire extinguishers in the home.
