In which I hate on my husband's favorite song...

I am actually gonna rant about this tomorrow, but tonight I'm still too pissed by the implications to think straight.

Tonight...tonight I will amuse myself by once again pointlessly overanalyzing a country song, and because I had this conversation with my husband earlier today, Imma hate on his favorite song:

Admittedly, I love this song as well. If you stop to think about it, though, what evidence does he actually have that she's cheating on him?  Two lines: "You don't know it, but I came over tonight/There was somebody's car parked outside".  That's it.  Aside from that car, all the dude's got to go on is rumors.

It amuses me to come up with all the perfectly legitimate reasons a strange car could have been there.  Think about it: she's having a study group. Now he's off creepin' on some innocent chick 'cause his girlfriend wanted to get a good grade in Chemistry.  Or her mom is in town. Or her brother.  Or her car broke down, and that's the loaner from the dealership. Or, hey, she just bought a new car.

Then again, now that I think about it, maybe that is her boyfriend's car...and the dude singing is a stalker.  Seriously, listen to that song.  There's nothing that really indicates they're together, is there?  His friends are telling him to leave her alone.  He's driving past her house late at night.  He plans to go find some other girl who's vulnerable and to take advantage of her:

Somewhere in the city tonight there's a girl and she's lonely like me
She'll be easy to see, and naturally
She'll have that look in her eyes; she'll be feeling that way
I see it all plain as day
Oh I'll never be, what she wants me to be,
Oh but lucky for me

Some fools never learn...*

Yeah, I think that's it.  Ol' Steve's a creeper...

*I totally didn't have to look up the lyrics.  And that is why I'm getting lucky tonight.  Or why my husband got lucky.  However you want to look at it.

If he is dating her, it would be strange for her to have bought a car without telling him. One would assume her car was also there, otherwise the answer could be that she had moved and someone else lived there. That would certainly make sense if he was a stalker and she knew about him.
