So did you know Mexicans don't eat sandwiches?

This was news to me.  I highly suspect it will be news to every single Mexican I know, too.

JayG talks about the racist peanut butter sandwich here.  Me, I just shake my head.

I would not want to live in Ms Gutierrez's world.  Can you imagine foodstuffs being allowed to only one race, as apparently she thinks happens?  No puffy tacos?  No pho?  No tandoori chicken?  Y'all, I've lived in New England.  I've seen what passes for white person food.  I don't think I could survive long.

I've said it before, and I will again: what makes this country great is the blending of many cultures into one.  American culture (which does exist, contrary to the belief of some) is not a static or stagnant thing.  Every immigrant group influences the mainstream and eventually becomes part of the mainstream (this is why spaghetti isn't an exotic dish anymore).  Placing artificial barriers to divide ethnic groups helps no one, least of all the minority group in question.

And how is "Mexicans don't eat sandwiches" any less racist than "Damn Mexicans, always eating tacos"?

I know this white boy would get awful bored eating boiled *everything* and tea without ice!

Perhaps Mizz Gutierrez thinks the cafeteria should offer a choice, bean burritos for the Mexicans and PB&J for everybody else. (Since most school districts go with whatever's cheapest for mass-assembled food.) Kinda like how there's a "choice" in the line between regular milk and chocolate, unless you're at the back of the line.

I certainly could. Though the people who live with me might not appreciate it much. I love me some Rueben sandwiches! (Oh, wait. Is that racist?)

Yeah, especially those who have restaurants and offer tortas and gorditas. (I love those, too.)

I know plenty of Mexicans (from Mexico, not just Hispanic) who eat sandwiches, though I don't know any who eat PBJ sandwiches.
Besides, I've always considered tacos to be a type of sandwich. Tortillas are just a type of flatbread.
