That's the same margin as the UMC had when it voted that gays are Bad Christians.
Voter turnout was about 37%, which means (if my math is correct), the "majority" of North Carolinians who support fucking over their fellows is actually about 23%.
This is why a) you need to VOTE in local elections and b) direct democracy is a shitty, shitty idea.

It's worth pointing out that gay marriage has gone down in flames in every state in which its been put to a vote. North Carolina is hardly by itself in failing to approve it. Even Californians rejected it.
