30 Days of Truth: Day 18

Day 18 → Your views on gay marriage.

Hey, this one is easy, and if you've been reading my blog for any length of time, you already know my answer, but I'll rehash it for newcomers.

I support gay marriage.  Not domestic partnerships.  Not civil unions.  Marriage.  One man + one woman?  Great.  One man + one man?  Also great.  One woman + one woman?  You guessed it...

There is no logical reason to oppose gay marriage.  There are some brands of Christians who oppose it, but guess what?  We don't live in a theocracy.  My blog roll consists of Catholics, Protestants, at least two Pagans  I can think of offhand, and even a couple of atheists, plus a whole bunch more folks whose religious leanings are far from apparent in their posts.  So...whose religion gets to dictate this?

In all honesty, I cannot see a single downside to gay marriage which is unique to gay marriage.  It's certainly not going to degrade heterosexual unions.  By the same token, there are no benefits to heterosexual marriage which are unique to heterosexual marriage.  Matrimony encourages stability and fidelity.  Period.  What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the homo.

And, like I've said before, they can't possibly do any worse at it than we have.

Personally, I can't see why some people are so opposed to it. Why should I care what kind of arrangement other adults want to enter? It doesn't affect my marriage, so go for it.
