Random story.

I was going to put this story in this post, but forgot about it, so I told the Pistolero to tell it, but he hasn't gotten around to it yet, so I'm gonna.

Very early on in our Facebook chats--right after they'd taken a turn for the somewhat romantic (I say somewhat because, hey, it's him and me--it was more nerdy than anything), he said that he had to tell me something. Being that we're talking about who we're talking about, I wasn't really worried--after all, the very scant amount of stuff that could make him look bad is already out there on his blog.

So when he said "I have a mild case of cerebral palsy," I thought Oh, okay. We were talking about something else at the same time, and that's what I addressed in my reply.

Eventually--probably about five or ten minutes later--it occurred to me that I probably should have said something to address his comment directly. In truth, the pronouncement had made less of an impact on me than him telling me he's left-handed (I know I've said this before, but you right-handed folks out there don't know what a pleasure it is to be able to sit beside someone to eat without bumping elbows!). I have no easy analogy for it; I guess I could say it registered about where the "I grew up in Texarkana" comment did.

So I said something along the lines of "I understand why you thought you had to tell me that, but you realize I don't care, right?"

The truth, though, is that I don't understand why he felt the need to tell me. I mean, I realize it's the sort of odd thing that will probably cause a few folks to shy away from a potential partner, and I guess it's better to throw it out early on and deal with the potential rejection right away...But I honestly don't understand why it would cause a woman to reject a man (or vice versa).

I mean, damn. It's not like he's a Democrat.

Sadly, not everyone feels that way. I knew a guy who used to be rejected by some women when they noticed he was missing part of the little finger on his right hand.

HEY I'm left-handed wench! :p

I think it's cool that you don't care. It's sad what some people will turn down because a person isn't physically "perfect". I think you rock for not giving a shit.

Even if you are a stinkin' rightie. hehe
