Haven for Hope has been in the news quite a bit, usually with problems.
It strikes me as a situation where someone had an idea, got it financed, but has no idea how to run it. A lot of these folks have mental issues in part because they don't take the meds as they are supposed to. This place is going to go belly up pretty quick, I think.Josephnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15034156.post-29997020353935054142010-07-24T17:38:25.521-05:002010-07-24T17:38:25.521-05:00no actually most do-gooders are trying to shovel b...no actually most do-gooders are trying to shovel back an overwhelming tide. most higher ups in this game are trying to launch themselves a political career. or at least grab themselves a chunk before the thing falls to pieces.

I have spent about 10 years on the fringes of the poverty pimping game.

I finally just bought a t-shirt that says, I'm NOT your Fu**ing Social Worker.

Some days I can actually make it stick.John Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04875185117306503147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15034156.post-84891128653333099722010-07-16T16:31:17.849-05:002010-07-16T16:31:17.849-05:00Well, goodness. Who would ever have thought that homeless folks might have drugs?

Do gooders are always caught by surprise when the people they are trying to help betray them and their expectations.

Apparently the homeless are supposed to be needy and appreciative for what they receive. Oh, and virtuous, too.

Did I mention that most do gooders are hopelessly idealistic and naive?TOTWTYTRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17221321904364051792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15034156.post-32796160055995012682010-07-12T22:12:27.164-05:002010-07-12T22:12:27.164-05:00I met a guy who was with the Army Guard and worked...I met a guy who was with the Army Guard and worked in the building on Port Kelly (Kelly USA, Kelly AFB etc) when the Katrina "victims" were brought in. He told me that the drug issue was horrible. They actually dispensed drugs to some people based upon their word that they had a prescription but it had been lost in the floods. I suspect the people at Haven could have learned from some of the errors made during the Kelly Katrina fiasco, but didn't.

What a shame.Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06309270376394371120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15034156.post-31732625480740062082010-07-12T20:10:32.042-05:002010-07-12T20:10:32.042-05:00This is where the professionals are being naive. ...This is where the professionals are being naive.

We have a new downtown stadium that was breathlessly promoted, financed in the Legislature and with local bonds. We were promised professional teams. I doubt it will happen. The University of Louisville is all giggly about it and we are supposed to get the Eagles to perform this fall. Other than that, it was a boondoggle, in my opinion.Charlenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17167633465853736197noreply@blogger.com
